Baby's First Trip to the Day Spa

She does love girly stuff!

Resurrection Sunday

Matthew 28:6
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said!
Come and see the place where he lay.

At the beginning of human history God created Adam and Eve. He made a beautiful garden for them to live in. He walked and talked with them face to face. He loved them dearly. God gave them just one rule to obey. But Adam and Eve couldn't even keep that single instruction. They chose to disobey. God told them that the punishment for sin was death and separation from God. Every man and woman who has lived since Adam and Eve has followed the same path. We all have sinned and because of that, the Bible says we all deserve to die and be separated from God forever.

But God is merciful beyond comprehension. He loves us and doesn't want us to be separated from Him. He had a plan. His plan was to let someone who had never sinned take our punishment for us. Since all mankind has sinned, that Someone had to be God Himself. Jesus Christ, God's son, came to earth and lived a perfect, sinless, loving life. Yet even though He did no wrong, He allowed Himself to be put to death by men who hated God. At that moment, he took all our sins on Himself and carried them to the grave. That was Friday, but Sunday was coming!

On Sunday morning, Christ showed his power by conquering death. He rose from the grave. He now offers to credit the payment He made to the account of anyone who turns from their sin and trusts in His sacrifice for salvation. I praise Him that He did that for me!

Romans 1:4
Who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God
by his resurrection from the dead:
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Although I'm going to enjoy spending time with my family tomorrow, dressing my children up in fancy clothes, and giving candy to them and to my Sunday School class, all that is nothing compared to the greatness of Christ's resurrection and what that means to me! I hope to be able to communicate that to my children and my class.

I Corinthians 15
If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.
But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead!
the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive!

Happy Resurrection Sunday!

Typing 101

B used to occasionally give me a hard time about how slowly I typed. I didn't think I was that slow, it was just that he was amazingly fast. He'd much rather type it himself than watch me do it.

I did take typing in high school. That was back in the day of typewriters and -gasp!- carbon paper. Do they even make that stuff anymore? I think the best I ever did there was 35 wpm. It earned me a nice solid B. Well, apparently I've come a long way, because lookey here:

70 words

Speedtest

I confess, my first attempt I got a whopping 16 words per minute. But honest, this was only my second attempt! I'm not going for a third because I suspect the average would be closer to the 16 than the 70. Apparently accuracy counts for something. Go see how you can do!

Let's hear it for my girl!

I'm sure I'll regret having said this in two years when I'm still trying to potty train her, but. . .

Whoo Hoo! H baby did her first poo poo in the potty yesterday!

Of course, she's about the same age her brother was when I bought the potty chair because he seemed so close to being ready. Two years before he actually was. We're not throwing out the diapers just yet.

She took the words right out of my mouth

J and I were having a family jam session today. He was dancing around and singing into the microphone while I was playing a little Joplin. (I use the terms "dancing" and "singing" loosely here.) He was actually shouting some little phrase he'd made up over and over and over. And over. I was struggling to be tolerant - didn't want to stifle his creativity or anything - but I was starting to wish he'd sing something else.

H, had been sitting on the bed in the next room reading her "Bible." (It's actually a hymnbook, but she insists it's a Bible.) Apparently her patience is a little shorter than mine, because part way through our third or fourth round of Maple Leaf Rag she'd had enough. She stomped over to the door, she poked her head in, and firmly told him, "J! Pipe down!"

It made me laugh so hard, the song was over anyway!

Whew! Glad that's over.

I had a big presentation Wednesday evening. My partner and I gave a CME dinner. I can't say I really enjoy public speaking. I enjoy having done it, but I find the preparation and delivery fairly stressful - particularly on my gut. Ugh! I have great respect for people who can do it on a regular basis (like B). I can fake being a decent public speaker if I have a month to prepare. If I had to do it weekly, I'm afraid not.

As a result, there hasn't been much to talk about on the blog lately. Unless you'd like to hear about advances in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. In which case, I can wax eloquent for quite a while. Power point slides included.

This week should be more interesting. My partner is going to Cabo san Lucas for the week. That's good and bad from my perspective. Bad for me, because I'm on call for the next 10 days straight - and day number 1 has not been a good start to the stretch. Good for her, for obvious reasons. But good for our family because we get to doggy-sit Churchill!

We took care of him last summer and H fell head over heels in love with him. She still refers to most dogs as "Churchill." This is our way of getting our dog fix without the expense or long term commitment of actually getting our own dog.

Play it Again!

H loves music. She loves to sing it, and she loves to listen to it. She has a favorite CD that she begs for each and every time we're in the car. She calls it "Bible Songs" or "Li'l come" (for Let the Little Children Come, one of the songs on the CD.)

A few weeks ago we were driving around town listening to the CD. When we arrived home and B turned off the car, she had a Royal Meltdown! Kicking, screaming, the works as B was getting her out of her car seat. She was very upset that the music had stopped. "Back on, back on!" she kept shouting.

The song she was angry about having been interrupted? "Children Obey Your Parents in the Lord."

She knows the words, but perhaps the message is a bit lost on her!
